United Nations Under Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo, was arriving to Cyprus on Sunday.

According to CNA sources, DiCarlo will be briefed by UN SG’s Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (UNFICYP) Colin Stewart before her meetings on Monday.

UN Secretary-General’s Deputy Spokesperson, Farhan Haq, said this week during the press briefing at the UN headquarters, that DiCarlo would travel to Cyprus over the weekend.

On Monday “she will meet with the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot leaders, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides and Mr. Ersin Tatar, respectively.”

“They will discuss the way forward on the Cyprus issue in preparation of an informal meeting in a broader format. In addition, Ms. DiCarlo will be focusing on the work of the Secretary-General’s good offices mission and meeting with representatives of civil society, including youth and women’s groups,” he added.

Moreover, he said that following her visit to Cyprus, she will hold meetings in Athens on Wednesday and Ankara on Thursday “for discussions on the Cyprus issue, as well as other key regional and global developments.”

Meanwhile, it has been officially announced that Rosemary DiCarlo is set to meet with President Nikos Christodoulides at noon on Monday.

Earlier, at 10:30, she will meet with Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar.

Sources told CNA on Friday that on Monday afternoon, DiCarlo will meet with the Cyprus Women Bi-Communal Coalition at Ledra Palace, in the Nicosia buffer zone.

In statements this week, Christodoulides expressed his readiness to attend a joint meeting with DiCarlo and the Turkish Cypriot leader.
