The launch of the digital ‘e-Kalathi’ platform, which was designed to inform consumers about the prices of essential goods and allow them to compare the prices thereof, has been delayed from its initially planned date of March 4, consumer protection service head Constantinos Karageorgis said on Thursday.

Speaking to the Cyprus News Agency, he said the launch has been postponed “for a few days” due to technical issues related to the system’s security.

“This delay will last a very short period of time to test the system, through the research deputy ministry, which took it upon itself to examine the system’s security and identified some technical issues which need to be corrected,” he said.

He added that during the scheme’s pilot phase earlier this month, “two or three technical issues were identified which need to be corrected”, and that it will “still take a few days until e-Kalathi is officially put into operation”.

When the platform is fully developed, it is expected that thousands of products will be listed on it, and that it will include all supermarkets with an annual turnover of €5 million.

Its aim is to allow consumers to compare prices of everyday products at different supermarkets and will comprise a mobile application and a website.
