The fire service responded to 47 fires over the past day, fire services spokesman Andreas Kettis said on Sunday.
According to Kettis, on Saturday the Fire Service responded to six potentially dangerous fires in rural areas in Paphos District and another 41 fires in rural and urban areas in the other districts.
He said the Fire Service was called to deal with 63 incidents on Saturday, of which 47 involved fires and another 16 special services.
“There were fires in dry grass, in wild brush and trees, in uncontrolled rubbish dumps, in concrete pits. The Fire Department wonders what numbers and damage we will reach by the heart of summer,” Kettis said, adding that human activity is behind every fire, and “prevention has an influential role.”
Kettis urged everyone to be vigilant, and asked District Administrations, municipal, community and state authorities to proceed in a timely manner with tree trimming, clean-ups and removal of uncontrolled garbage sites.
