The condition of an 80-year-old man, who was hospitalised at the Nicosia General after being bitten by a viper, is stable and improved, while a 74-year-old man who was also bitten by a viper was discharged from the Limassol General, doctors said on Sunday.
According to a statement issued by the state health services organisation (Okypy), the 74-year-old from Nicosia on 22.4.2025 , while in a field in Limassol District, was bitten by a viper on the upper limb. In addition, the 80-year-old man from a village in Limassol, on 25.4.2025, while he was picking capers, was bitten by a viper on the lower limb. Both of them were given an antivenom serum.
The 74-year-old was transferred to the ICU of Limassol General and after being administered medicine, he was admitted for 24 hours to the ICU and then to a ward. The 80-year-old, from a village in Limassol, was taken by ambulance to Limassol General Hospital and then to Nicosia General Hospital.
Asked by CNA, the press spokesman of Okypy, Charalambos Harilaou, said that the 74-year-old who was hospitalised at the Limassol General Hospital was discharged, while the 80-year-old continues to be treated in the ICU of the Nicosia General Hospital and his condition is stable and improved.
In yesterday’s announcement, Okypy called on people, especially during this period, to be careful and if they happen to come across a viper or other poisonous snake, to move away from the area.
