Rich, colourful, spicy and mild dishes from Indian cuisine will fill Eleftheria Square with the second edition of the Indian Food Festival takes place. Arriving for only day one, the event on May 4 is organised by the Cyprus-India Cultural Association with the aim to showcase Indian gastronomy to celebrate the community’s cultural life in Cyprus.
The event will last from 11am to 7.30pm at the square’s lower level. You can expect different types of curries, a range of spice levels, naan, samosas and plenty of other lesser-known, traditional Indian bites.
The first edition in 2024 was a great success and is said to have gathered more than 3,000 Indian and Cypriot attendees. Seven stalls served and displayed food and delicacies from different parts of India while the mayor launched the first edition of the free quarterly magazine Get to Know India whose theme for that edition was of course Indian cuisine.
In true Indian fashion, the event also included an entertainment programme with invigorating Gujrati dance and traditional folk Punjabi dance performed by Rock Star Makhan Singh and his troupe. The programme also included songs by the Hare Krishna Mission as well as inaugural tunes played by the Police Band of Cyprus.
Similar high spirits, flavours and aromas are expected to return to Eleftheria Square next week for the second edition of the Indian Food Festival.
