A fire that broke out at midday on Tuesday in dry grass and wild vegetation near the highway bypass to the new Tseri roundabout spread to old vehicles and spare parts in a yard but was later brought under control.

Fire service spokesman Andreas Kettis said the fire, initially on both sides of the highway, needed six fire trucks from Nicosia to limit it to the yard it started in.

Their efforts were assisted by firefighters from Larnaca, the forestry department and Emak special forces, as well as local administration and Supportcy water tankers.
