Two sisters from Scotland have been named Ayia Napa “tourism ambassadors” after decades of holidaying in the popular Cypriot resort.

Ashley O’Connor and Heather Dingwall received the honorary title during a special ceremony at Ayia Napa town hall, recognising their longstanding loyalty to the area. The sisters have visited the town 20 and 30 times respectively.

The title was bestowed upon the woman on account of their “deep love” for and “dedication” to Ayia Napa, which they have consistently chosen as their holiday destination for many years.

Ayia Napa deputy mayor Antonis Christou presented the awards and thanked the pair for their frequent trips to the town.

“The fact that they have visited 20 and 30 times shows the depth of their love for Ayia Napa,” Christou said.

Their dedication helps promote the town as a top tourist destination in the Mediterranean and across Europe.”

He added that the sisters are now considered part of the local community.

“They are no longer just returning visitors. To us, they are citizens of Ayia Napa in every sense.”

The honorary titles are part of an ongoing effort by the municipality to acknowledge and celebrate repeat visitors who contribute to the town’s international image and economy.
