Four teenagers were on Tuesday remanded in police custody, suspected of involvement in a May 29 incident when an explosive device detonated at a pub in the Limassol suburb of Zakaki.

Limassol district court ordered the four suspects – two aged 17, the others 15 and 14 – remanded in custody for eight days as police continue investigating.

Days earlier, the four had been arrested and detained over a different case – the theft of a cash register from a bakery in Limassol. Brandishing a knife, the perpetrators stole the register containing €500 in cash.

According to Limassol CID officer Lefteris Kyriacou, during the course of those investigations evidence came up that the four youngsters were implicated in the May 29 explosion at the Zakaki pub. The explosion occurred around 5.30am, causing damage.

Asked whether the suspects may have acted on someone else’s behalf, Kyriacou said authorities are looking into all angles.
