A 45-year-old man has admitted to setting a fire in which four decommissioned vehicles that were parked at the old oil refinery premises in Larnaca were destroyed on early Saturday morning.
According to the head of the Larnaca fire department, George Charalambous, the fire spread to four vehicles located outside a car repair shop and caused a shack in the refinery premises to burn down.
Examinations to determine the causes of the fire were carried out in a joint effort by the police, the fire department and the electromechanical services and eventually resulted in the summoning of a 45-year-old Greek Cypriot.
The man later admitted to the arson in a written statement, saying he set the fire as a protest for socio-economic issues he faced, resulting in him living in the shack that he ultimately burned down.
His will be arrested during the day and is expected to appear before the Larnaca district court on Sunday.
