A pedestrian and cycling path were given to the public in Limassol on Friday, as part of a “substance and spirit” pilot project in the framework of the Limassol 2030 strategic planning.

Inaugurating the path along Aktaia Odos – the coastal road – mayor Yiannis Armeftis said the area is being transformed from a neglected place to one accessible and inviting, with a pedestrian and cycling path, lighting, trees and a temperature-reducing surface.

The project, he said, includes new connections from Tsiflikoudia and Saint Ioannis to the centre and coastal front.

Furthermore, a new 350-metre beach is being created by removing thousands of tonnes of waste, so that “the people can be given a modern, safe and viable public space”.

We are not just inaugurating a project. We are inaugurating a new way of thinking, more direct and effective,” Armeftis said.

He added that works were moving fast, without having to wait for “studies that take years and time-consuming procedures”.

The next step will be to clear the seabed. This is scheduled for September 27 with the support of the Cyprus Marine and Maritime Institute.
