A wildfire that broke out near the village of Goudi, south of Polis Chrysochous, on Monday morning has been brought under control, the fire brigade said.

The fire brigade said it was alerted to the fire at 10.53am, and that firefighters arrived on the scene shortly after.

Four firefighting aircraft had been deployed to tackle the blaze.

On Monday afternoon, the fire brigade said the fire had been brought under control after it burnt a total of 12 hectares of dry grass and wild vegetation.

As such, it said, three of the four firefighting aircraft had left the area, while one remained.

It added that ground-based firefighting forces would remain on the site to ensure that the fire remain extinguished and to deal with any potential flare-ups.

In total, it said, five fire engines from the fire brigade and two from the forestry department were deployed to fight the fire, alongside one earth mover from the Paphos district government.
