Cyprus saw a robust rise in electric and hybrid vehicles between January and November 2025, according to figures published on Monday by the state statistical service (Cystat).
The report showed that electric and hybrid cars expanded their presence across the motor market at a pace that outstripped petrol and diesel models.
Specifically, total motor vehicle registrations reached 4,172 in November 2025, marking an increase of 8.4 per cent when compared with the 3,850 registrations recorded in November 2024.
Passenger saloon registrations rose by 9.4 per cent to 3,195 from 2,920 in the same month of the previous year.
Across the eleven month period from January to November 2025, total motor vehicle registrations climbed by 4.5 per cent and reached 48,904, compared with 46,780 in the corresponding period of 2024.
Passenger saloon cars increased to 37,977 from 36,360 and recorded a year-on-year growth of 4.4 per cent.
Of these saloon vehicles, 13,930 or 36.7 per cent were new while 24,047 or 63.3 per cent were used.
Rental saloon cars recorded a substantial rise of 22.4 per cent to reach 5,052.
The most striking trend was the shift toward cleaner powertrains. The share of petrol powered saloon cars fell to 42.3 per cent in January to November 2025 compared with 48.9 per cent one year earlier.
Diesel powered cars also declined and dropped to 8.8 per cent from 10.1 per cent in 2024.
Electric cars, meanwhile, increased their market share from 4 per cent in 2024 to 4.7 per cent in 2025.
Hybrid cars expanded even more sharply and grew from 36.9 per cent to 44.3 per cent, an unprecedented acceleration that placed them close to half of all passenger saloon registrations.
The report also showed that motor coaches and buses increased to 172 in January to November 2025, compared with 127 in the corresponding period of 2024.
Additionally, goods conveyance vehicles rose by 6.3 per cent to reach 5,694 compared with 5,355 a year earlier.
Rental goods vehicles increased by 23.2 per cent to 281, light goods vehicles rose by 6.1 per cent to 4,540, and heavy goods vehicles increased by 2.7 per cent to 645.
Road tractors, the units of trailers, also increased by 2.7 per cent to reach 228.
Mopeds under 50cc dropped sharply to 197 from 657 in the same period of the previous year.
Motorcycles above 50cc increased by 16.6 per cent to reach 4,264 compared with 3,657 in January to November 2024.
The report highlighted that these trends together reveal a market increasingly shaped by electrification, hybrid adoption, and a steady decline of traditional fuel models.
