
European University Cyprus proudly announces the appointment of its Vice Rector for Research and External Affairs and Professor of Molecular Biology, Dr Panayiotis Papageorgis, as an Honorary Member of the Cyprus Biological Society (CBS).
This honorary distinction recognises his significant scientific and research contribution to the advancement of biological sciences and biomedical research in Cyprus and internationally.
The decision of the Cyprus Biological Society, the official scientific organisation representing biologists in Cyprus, is based on Professor Papageorgis’ distinguished academic career and his continuous contribution to the advancement of research, innovation, and scientific knowledge.
Professor Papageorgis serves as Vice Rector for Research and External Affairs at European University Cyprus and as Director of the Basic and Translational Cancer Research Centre (BTCRC). His research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying cancer metastasis and on developing innovative therapeutic approaches aimed at improving immunotherapy effectiveness through advanced cancer models and genomic methodologies.
With more than 65 publications in high-impact international scientific journals and significant participation in European research programmes, Professor Papageorgis has consistently been included since 2020 in Stanford University’s list of the top 2 per cent of scientists worldwide, confirming the international recognition and impact of his scientific work.
“This recognition represents both a great honour and a responsibility to continue strengthening scientific research and biological knowledge in Cyprus,” stated Vice Rector Professor Papageorgis. “Progress in the life sciences relies on close collaboration between the local and international academic community, society, and the new generation of scientists, which we must continuously support.”
