The Cyprus Mountaineering, Climbing and Orienteering Federation has filed a complaint against the Cyprus Sports Organisation (CSO), accusing it of “systematically undermining” the federation and warning that it will seek legal action if its demands are not met.
In a lawyer’s letter dated March 6, the federation said it had been subjected to “selective and harmful treatment”, which it suggested may be linked to “personal differences”.
The federation claimed that over the past few years its finances, competitiveness and operations had been affected, alleging that the CSO had refused to release approved funding for 2023, 2024 and 2025.
It also said the CSO had rejected requests to develop new disciplines, such as ski mountaineering, failed to respond to correspondence in a timely manner, and did not support efforts to host international events in Cyprus.
The federation made particular reference to the rejection of a proposal to build a climbing wall at Terra Santa College, despite what it described as the relatively low cost of the project.
It also rejected claims by the CSO that it is under investigation for financial irregularities.
In its letter, the federation called for the immediate release of approved funds, the restoration of proper financial management and communication, and approval of the climbing wall project.
