Reservoir levels across Paphos have risen above 50 per cent following four months of sustained rainfall, with the Mavrokolymbos dam reaching 89.8 per cent capacity after standing empty last year due to structural damage.

According to figures released by the water development department (WDD) on Monday, updated figures showed major improvements in water reserves across the district ahead of the summer period.

Asprokremmos, Cyprus’ second largest dam, reached 41.1 per cent capacity, compared with 22.8 per cent during the same period last year.

Kannavia reservoir climbed to 51.8 per cent from 24 per cent a year earlier, while the Evretos reservoir in Polis rose to 49.1 per cent, more than double last year’s 23.2 per cent.

Three smaller reservoirs in the district, Ayia Marina Chrysochous, Argaka and Pomos, overflowed in March following heavy winter rainfall.

Officials said the figures are expected to improve further as rainfall continues in some areas later this week.

The recovery of Mavrokolymbos has been particularly significant after the reservoir was left empty in 2025 following damage to its infrastructure.
