The cause of death of the two young boys who died after being left in a vehicle will require further examinations before being formally determined, British bases police said on Tuesday following the completion of post-mortem examinations.
In a brief statement, a Sovereign Base Areas police spokesman said that “following the post-mortem examination, the cause of death will require further examinations“.
The authorities also confirmed that the next court hearing has been scheduled for Thursday at 12pm.
The announcement suggests that further forensic and toxicological analyses may be required before investigators can establish the precise cause of death, leaving questions surrounding the circumstances of the tragedy unanswered.
The father and stepmother of the two boys, aged 10 and 8, who were found dead inside a car in Xylofagou, were remanded in custody for three days on Monday after the SBA court found sufficient grounds to keep them in detention while investigations continue.
Authorities have not released further details about the ongoing investigation, which remains focused on establishing the exact sequence of events leading to the deaths of the two children.
