A total of 146 animals died after a fire broke out on a farm near the Kyrenia district village of Koutsoventis, the Turkish Cypriot police said.

The fire reportedly broke out at 3.45pm on Wednesday, and destroyed a milking machine, a generator, and a welding machine, among other farming machinery, as well as 100 square hay bales, 13 rolled hay bales, animal feed, 10 solar panels, and a motorcycle inside the barn in which it broke out.

Additionally, 32 small livestock animals, including sheep, rams, lambs, and kids, died in the fire.

The fire then spread to another farm, where it destroyed 400 square hay bales, five rolled hay bales, four bags of barley, the roof of an outhouse, nine fruit trees, and a plastic water tank.

At that farm, 30 small livestock animals, including goats, sheep, and lambs, as well as 50 chickens, four turkeys, and 30 chicks died in the fire.

In addition, two people were taken to hospital after inhaling smoke, while the fire itself was brought under control by firefighters.

The police’s investigation into the matter is ongoing.
