Something special arrives on the last weekend of every month in the capital as the Nicosia Municipal Theatre presents diverse events. In this new series, which launched this June and runs until the end of August, the outdoor spaces and garden at the side of the theatre are transformed into open-air settings that host a variety of events – sunset spots to enjoy a cocktail, live music, stand-up comedy and screenings.

As the end of the month approaches, so does the next On the Side event. On Saturday, August 29 and Sunday, August 30, the Nicosia Municipal Theatre collaborates with the Limassol International Documentary Festival to present two standout screenings from this year’s festival. The two films are The Oligarch and the Art Dealer and Still Pushing Pineapples. Admission is free.

This Limassol International Documentary Festival x Nicosia Municipal Theatre event begins at 7.45pm. The first film, The Oligarch and the Art Dealer by Andreas Dalsgaard, will be shown on Saturday night and it is a gripping documentary exploring one of the most talked-about and mysterious cases to shake the art world: the fierce dispute between Swiss art dealer Yves Bouvier and Russian oligarch Dmitry Rybolovlev, sparked by billion-dollar fraud allegations.

On Sunday, Kim Hopkin’s Still Pushing Pineapples will be screened which dives into entertainment, working-class culture, human relationships, pop music and contemporary British reality as they intertwine in a fun, subversive road movie following a faded pop star’s attempt to revive and hold onto his old glory.

And to add to the outdoor cinema experience, an outdoor bar serving drinks and cocktails will be open on both evenings from 7pm to 11pm.
