Coronavirus: more than 10,000 checks, 119 booked

Amidst a lockdown which started early on Sunday morning police carried out a record of 10,092 checks for violations of coronavirus measures in the past 24 hours.

Officers mostly checked if people were walking and driving with the required SMS permission and were wearing protective masks.

As a result, 119 individuals were booked in the hours leading up to 6am on Monday.

In the Nicosia district, 2,166 inspections were completed, in Limassol 2,339, in Larnaca 1,160, in Famagusta 1,653, in Paphos 1,814 and in Morphou 709.

15 individuals were fined in Nicosia, 50 in Limassol, 18 in Larnaca, 16 in Paphos, 15 in Famagusta and three in the Morphou district.

Traffic police carried out 214 checks and booked two people.

Of the 10,092 checks 37 were conducted by marine police.
