Three more elderly people have died of Covid-19, while 241 positives were detected in island-wide testing, authorities said Thursday.

The latest deceased are all men: a 79-year-old with underlying conditions who expired at Famagusta general hospital; a 75-year old with no reported underlying conditions who died at Limassol general hospital; and a 76-year old with an underlying condition who passed away at Limassol general hospital.

That brings the death toll from Covid-19 to 166; the average age of the deceased is 79 years.

Of 10,328 tests – PCR and rapid antigen – 241 came out positive, representing a positivity rate of 2.33%.

The cumulative total of persons testing positive for the coronavirus since last March comes to 28,365.

The latest positives broke down as follows: 75 from contact tracing of 456 samples; five from 168 samples taken at the two airports; 33 from 955 samples among people getting tested on their own initiative; 20 from 400 samples processed by labs at the general hospitals; one from 98 samples via referrals by GPs; and 107 from 8,187 samples from rapid tests.

On the hospital front, 202 people were being treated for the coronavirus – 59 in a serious condition. Of the 59, 32 were intubated, five in ICU but not on ventilators, and 22 in a high-dependency unit.

Occupancy fell slightly at the Famagusta referral hospital for Covid-19, now treating 60 patients.

At Nicosia general hospital there were 79 coronavirus patients, 60 at Limassol general hospital, and three at Makarios hospital.
