How to make a cool polymer clay dragon

Hey kids, how do you feel about dragons?

Not the fire-breathing kind (those leave burn marks everywhere), we’re talking CLAY dragons. Here’s how to make one for yourselves, with this follow-along tutorial for a polymer clay creation.

The dragon in the video was made from light and dark purple clay, as well as a base of aluminium foil. Its wings were baked at 110 degrees centigrade for 10 minutes, just so they kept their shape and were easier to add to the body later. A base of aluminium foil was used for the body to save on clay, and to make the dragon lighter in the end.

When attaching clay to aluminium foil, remember to use liquid clay to glue the elements together. Once the dragon body had the wings added, it was baked another 20 minutes at the same temperature.

Always follow the baking instructions on the clay package and leave your baked creation to cool before handling, as it is still soft and touching may leave dents.

(Tip: If you find you are leaving a lot of fingerprints when shaping the clay, you can use an earbud and rubbing alcohol to wipe the surface of the clay clean.)
