Why pain is an unhealthy driver of self-development

In this video, business and life coach Tatev Petrosyan looks at the unconscious belief many of us hold, whereby only unhappiness can provide the motivation to make difficult, yet desirable, life changes.

This belief has grave implications in terms of how long we may choose to stay in an ill-suited arrangement, such as a job or relationship in which we are unhappy, waiting for ourselves to reach an intolerable level of misery before we take action on our own behalf.

It also runs contrary to what she has observed in her own Life Coaching practice: those who are in a place of wellbeing, actually have far more internal resources with which to shift their lives in directions they prefer.

All of which goes to say that contentment is not to be feared as a barrier to self-improvement and to making positive life changes. In fact, the reverse is true.
