Coronavirus: one death, 111 new cases announced on Friday (Updated)

The health ministry announced one death and 111 new cases of Covid-19 on Friday.

The death concerned a 75-year-old woman with underlying conditions at Limassol hospital.

Her brings the total number to 229, of whom 153 were men and 76 women, with an average age of 79.

There are 76 people in hospital, 22 of whom are in serious condition. Of them, 12 are intubated, five are in ICU and five in a high dependency unit.

A total of 37,325 tests were carried out. The positivity rate stands at 0.3 per cent.

The total number of cases to date is 33,046.

Of the 37,325 tests 1,917 were PCR and 35,408 were rapid tests. Out of all the positive cases detected on Friday, 42 came through rapid testing while 48 came from 339 samples taken through contact tracing, and 18 cases from 921 samples taken through private initiative.

One out of 278 samples processed by hospital labs were positive, and out of 202 samples taken through GP referrals there were two positives.

In addition, 299 samples were taken at airports with no positives.

Five cases were detected in Nicosia, 28 in Limassol, five in Larnaca, one in Paphos and one in Famagusta.

Turkish Cypriots on Friday announced 14 new cases from 5,056 tests.

Since March last year, 22 people died in the north from the virus while the number of recorded infections reached 3,171. The latest death was an 81-year-old man on Thursday.
