Lufthansa sees the demand for tickets in and around the Easter weekend increasing to such an extent that the German airline has almost doubled the number of scheduled flights during that period. Most popular are flights to Mallorca, the Canary Islands and also Mexico and Costa Rica, according to industry sources.

Lufthansa is now planning 1,200 flights to European destinations around Easter weekend. In Frankfurt, compared with this week, this is a 50 per cent increase in capacity. At Munich airport, Lufthansa will even increase capacity by two hundred per cent at the end of this month.

Eurowings, the Lufthansa budget airline, has no flights to Cyprus until May, however. At that time, flights are priced at about €130 one-way on average. A greater number of flights are available in July and August, with the price at about the same level on average.

The number of bookings for flights to Mallorca has increased by eighty per cent in the past two weeks. The already rising booking trend was given an extra boost by the lifting of travel restrictions for the Spanish holiday island by the German government. Both Lufthansa and Eurowings have significantly more flights planned from 24 airports in Germany and the United Kingdom.

In addition to Mallorca, Lufthansa is seeing increasing interest in flights to the Canary Islands. For the first time, Lufthansa even offers flights to all the islands of the Spanish archipelago. On flights from Munich to Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria, Lufthansa is doubling capacity around Easter. On routes from Frankfurt to Gran Canaria and Tenerife, the company is expanding capacity by 50 per cent.

It is striking that Lufthansa is also seeing demand for flights to holiday destinations outside Europe is increasing. Cancun in Mexico and San José in Costa Rica are particularly popular. Lufthansa flies daily to Cancun, while five flights a week to San Jose.
