Coronavirus: four deaths, 309 new cases announced on Thursday (Updated)

Four people died of Covid-19 on Thursday, while testing in the community yielded 309 more positives.

The deceased are: a man aged 87 with underlying conditions, not record of vaccination, who expired at Limassol general hospital; a man aged 62 with underlying conditions, no record of vaccination, at Nicosia general hospital’s ICU; a man aged 47 with an underlying condition, no record of vaccination, at Nicosia general’s ICU; and a man aged 79 with underlying conditions, no record of vaccination, at Limassol general hospital.

That brings the death toll from Covid-19 to 260: 173 men and 87 women. The average age of the deceased remains at 79 years.

As far as testing goes, 309 people came out positive out of 43,914 tests (PCR and rapid), a positivity rate of 0.70 per cent.

The 309 positives came from: 58 from private initiative; seven from samples taken by the microbiology labs of hospitals; and 244 via rapid tests.

The total number of people having tested positive since the start of the outbreak last March is 46,173.

On the hospital front, 190 patients are being treated for Covid-19, of whom 46 in a serious condition.

Of the 46 in a serious condition, 22 are intubated, five are in ICUs without ventilators, and 19 are in high-dependency units.

The highest positivity rate by district was observed in Limassol at 0.71 per cent; then Nicosia at 0.60 per cent; Larnaca 0.52 per cent; Paphos 0.43 per cent; and Famagusta 0.13%.
