Coronavirus: Over 10,000 checks see 180 people charged

violations

In the 24 hours leading up to 6am on Friday the police carried out 10,600 checks islandwide for violations of Covid decrees, booking 180 people and two businesses.

Most of the charges were for not wearing masks and for not sending an SMS to move around.

According to a police spokesman a total of 1,956 checks were carried out in Nicosia and 37 people were charged, while in Larnaca 1,713 checks results in 16 people being charged. In Limassol 2,936 checks resulted in two businesses and 92 being charged, while in Paphos 835 checks were carried out and seven people were charged.

In Famagusta 1,465 checks were carried out while 22 people were charged and in Morphou 835 checks were carried out and one person was charged. Port police and traffic police carried out 28 and 832 checks with five people charged.
