Five tips for parents to bolster communication with teens

In this video, positivity psychologist and life coach Dr. Paul Jenkins goes through five things for mums and dads to keep in mind, as they interact with and speak to their teens.

Dr. Jenkins’ tips include:

  1. Don’t ‘be’ a ‘bear’
  2. Don’t ‘see’ a ‘bear’
  3. Minimise ‘noise’
  4. Listen to understand
  5. Express to be understood

Effective communication builds a strong foundation of connectedness and trust between parents and teens, allowing young people to feel ‘seen’ and able to talk safely about their feelings and their world.
