Cyprus Post is not fit for purpose

Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic more and more people have been buying what they need online. This requires a fit for purpose postal system.

Packages from the UK (and from outside the EU) now need customs clearance even if they are gifts and have to be put through the THALISUPP system which even the postal workers have said is not working correctly. Even post from within the EU is delayed. https://ips.cypruspost.gov.cy/ipswebtrack/ is very slow to update the information so there are huge gaps of many days between the item arriving in Cyprus and being updated on the tracking system.

A parcel sent from France on May 20 arrived in Cyprus by May 22 (according to the La Poste tracking system) but was not logged as arrived until May 31, some ten days later.

Later that day, it was sent to Nicosia and the last update on June 1 was to deliver to the addressee. On June 2 still no parcel.

The situation is even worse for post coming from the UK since Brexit. A parcel sent from the UK on May 7 arrived in Cyprus on May 9 but was not logged on the Cyprus tracking system as arrived until May 19, again around ten days later.

Then something strange happened, twice on May 19, then on May 20, 24 and 25 the tracker updated to “Send item to customs (Inb)”. My parcel was sent to customs five times! Calling the 8000 2000 number is no use, they direct you to a webform where you get no response.

Filling in the complaints form, likewise no response.

I was told by friends to go to the Post Office in Prodromou, Nicosia as the parcel is likely to be there and they just haven’t updated the tracking system. I went and the person on the counter who could not work the computer could not tell me where my package was, only, “I don’t know, it’s probably in Larnaca”.

Don’t even bother with trying to make a complaint or contacting any of the following contacts you will get no response: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected], [email protected]
