In 1980, accountant Omar Tello bought a rainforest pasture outside Puyo, his small Ecuadorian city.

The bold step was a bid toward fulfilling a lifelong dream of restoring Amazonian fauna and flora. Following his purchase he set about recreating a patch of pristine forest, yo-yoing back and forth between working on the land and holding down his bank job, much to the initial chagrin of his family.

Today, given the success of his efforts, he is trying to encourage other landowners to follow in his footsteps, so that together, they can turn the tide of Amazon deforestation.
