Coronavirus: One death and 60 new cases recorded (updated)

One death and 60 new coronavirus cases were announced on Tuesday, with a positivity rate of 0.16 per cent.

The death is a 66-year-old man. This brings the number of deaths from Covid-19 to 365: 243 men and 122 women, with average age 78 years.

The man was unofficially named earlier in the day as well-known Paphos doctor Michalis Markou who had been treated at Nicosia general hospital ICU in critical condition.

There are 45 patients with coronavirus in hospital, of whom 19 are in serious condition. Nine are intubated.

The new cases were detected from 38,435 PCR and rapid tests.

They concern 12 cases detected during contact tracing, 14 people who got tested privately, and three cases among samples processed in state hospitals’ labs.

Another four cases were people who got tested at Larnaca and Paphos airports.

Two cases were people who got rapid tests privately and 25 were among the rapid tests carried out in all districts on behalf of the health ministry. Of these, once case was detected from tests in the National Guard, and two in the Ergates industrial area. Four cases were detected in the Nicosia district with a positivity rate of 0.04 per cent, 17 in Limassol (0.28 per cent) and one in Larnaca (0.03 per cent). Paphos and Famagusta had no cases.

The total number of cases so far is 72,919.

In the north, 26 new cases were announced out of 9,155 tests with a positivity rate of 0.28 per cent.
