Coronavirus: One death, 577 people test positive on Sunday (Updated)

The health ministry said on Sunday that a woman aged 93 had died from Covid-19 and that 577  people had tested positive from 45,848 PCR and rapid tests, a positivity rate of 1.26 per cent.

The latest death at the Famagusta reference hospital has brought the total to date to 379. The average age of deaths remains around 77 years old.

There are 71 people in hospitals of whom 19 are in serious condition. Of these, nine are intubated.

Of the 45,848 tests on Sunday, 6,498 were PCR and 39,350 rapid tests resulting in 577 new positives as follows:

  • 4 from 86 samples taken through contract tracing
  • 9 from 3,822 passenger tests at airports.
  • 53 from 2,286 samples taken through private initiative.
  • 4 from 54 samples processed at hospital labs
  • 5 from 250 samples taken through GP referrals
  • 12 from 311 rapid tests in private clinical laboratories and pharmacies.
  • 490 from 39,039 samples tested under the free programme that ends on August 1

The latter figures are broken down as follows:

Nicosia 15,624 tests with 183 cases – positivity 1.17 per cent

Limassol 9,111 tests with 131 cases – positivity 1.44 per cent

Larnaca 5,383 tests with 71 cases – positivity 1.32 per cent

Paphos 4,212 tests with 27 cases – positivity 0.64 per cent

Famagusta 3,334 tests with 78 cases – positivity 2.34 per cent.

The north of the island announced 72 new positives on Sunday.
