Psychological help and support will be offered to those who have been affected by the raging fires, Education Minister Prodromos Prodromou said.

Four people have died as a result of the flames and scores of people have lost their homes.

According to Prodromou, the primary schools in Chirokitia and Iamatiki will be open to welcome any children whose families would like to send them to school.

“The destruction is enormous, the pain and load heavy. Our schools, just like other services of the state, stand by the citizens of the affected areas,” the minister said.

In the next few days, summer school will become available at primary schools for affected areas and will be announced as soon as possible.

At the lyceum in Lefkara, a team of teachers as well as the school’s management will be there ready to meet any students to provide support and help them deal with any potential problems.

Psychologists from the service of educational psychology will also be visiting the schools to provide any help and support to students, parents and teachers alike.

The service can be reached Monday to Friday between 7:30am – 3pm.
