Commission president in Cyprus for recovery and resilience plan

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will visit Cyprus on Wednesday and Thursday to officially inform the government on the Commission’s evaluation of the island’s recovery and resilience plan.

Von der Leyen will see President Nicos Anastasiades before presenting the evaluation of the programme.

The Commission president will arrive on the island on Wednesday evening and will also visit the fire service and the forestry department to meet firefighters who took part in the operation to put out the huge weekend fire.

On Thursday she is scheduled to meet Anastasiades to discuss the fire and the course of the coronavirus pandemic, as well as the Cyprus problem.

Von der Leyen will visit the University of Cyprus for the programme’s presentation, followed by a news conference.
