A minute with Jana K. Cerna Dance teacher

Where do you live?
I live in Limassol with my son and our puppy Sunny.

What did you have for breakfast?
Fruits and coffee with coconut milk.

Describe your perfect day
Balanced – some dancing, some fun time with my son and the puppy, some rest and some time just for myself.

Best book ever read?
I love too many books – but my latest favourite is 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami. I just love the atmosphere of his books.

Best childhood memory?
Sitting on a cherry tree with my sister and living fully in the moment.

What is always in your fridge?
Salad, eggs & wine

What music are you listening to in the car at the moment?
My son usually sings or chats with me. But when I am alone – Bruno Mars, Alicia Keys, Lauren Hill and all my favourite Latin music.

What’s your spirit animal?
I don’t have any.

What are you most proud of?
My son, my dance school and my students.

What movie scene has really stayed with you?
A scene from Jane Campion’s movie Piano where the main character “plays” on the piano keyboard carved to the table. The great desire to play actually made the music real.

If you could pick anyone at all (alive or dead) to go out for the evening with, who would it be?
Martha Graham (one of pioneers of modern dance). But actually, I would love to see her work with her dancers. For fun dinner I would go out with Robin Williams. And I would love to go to dance with Eddie Torres (king of salsa).

If you could time travel when/where would you go?
Paris in the 1930s.The fashion, the art, the parties…

What is your greatest fear?
I don’t like snakes.

What would you say to your 18-year-old self?
Protect your inner balance and learn to relax.

Name the one thing that would stop you dating someone
Narrow mind and disrespect.

If the world is ending in 24 hours what would you do?
I would spend it with my son and people I love – having fun.
