A fire that broke out around noon on Saturday between Tochni and Choirokitia was brought under control a few hours later after burning four hectares of dry brush, wild vegetation and carob trees, the forestry department said.

The fire reportedly broke out around 11.25 north of the Nicosia-Limassol highway on land under the forestry department’s jurisdiction.

It was fully brought under control around 4.25 in the afternoon by a crew made up of four forestry department officials and 16 firefighters, and six vehicles in total.

Fire service spokesman Andreas Kettis, had previously tweeted that five fire engines were sent to the scene – three by the fire services emergency response unit (Emak) one from the Lefkara fire station, and one from the forestry department.
