Coronavirus: One death, 97 cases on Saturday (Updated)

One death and 97 new Covid-19 cases were recorded on Saturday, the health ministry announced.

The death concerns an 83-year-old woman. The number of deaths so far is 568: 361 men and 207 women with an average age of 76.2 years.

The new cases were among 45,556 PCR and rapid tests, with a positivity rate of 0.21 per cent.

There are 63 patients with Covid-19 in hospital, 22 of whom in serious condition, including nine who are intubated.

The majority of cases, 50, concern people who got rapid tests privately.

Another two cases were detected during contact tracing, 17 were people who got PCR tests privately, and one was among samples processed in public hospitals’ labs.

Two of the new cases concern passengers at the Larnaca and Paphos airports.

The rest, 25, were among the rapid tests carried out in all districts on behalf of the health ministry. One of them was detected during tests in closed structures. Nine cases were detected in the Nicosia district out of 4,167 tests. Five cases were detected in Limassol (1,998), three in Larnaca (1,855) and seven in Paphos (933). No cases were found in the Famagusta district out of 603 tests.

So far 123,268 cases have been recorded.
