Coronavirus: no deaths, 109 people test positive on Thursday (updated)

The health ministry announced there were no deaths from Covid on Thursday but that 109 people tested positive for the virus from 24,193 PCR and rapid tests, a positivity rate of 0.45 per cent.

There are 59 people in hospitals of whom 18 are in serious condition. Of those, eight are intubated. Of the hospitalized patients, 57.63 per cent do not have a vaccination history. Four post-covid patients are on the ventilator.

Of the 18 in serious or critical condition, eight were intubated, two were being treated in an ICU without intubation, and eight were in high dependency units.

Today’s positive cases bring the total recorded since the start of the pandemic to 124,017.

Of the 24,193 tests, 3,242 were PCR tests and the remaining 20,951 rapid antigen tests, the ministry said.

Eight of the 109 cases resulted from 93 tests of contacts of confirmed cases, and seven were from 1860 tests among arriving passengers at Larnaca and Paphos airports.

There were 28 positive cases from a total of 1159 tests carried out by private initiative, two from 96 tests at hospital labs, 20 from 13,470 rapid tests at private labs and pharmacies and 44 from 7481 rapid tests from the health ministry’s testing sites.
