A company has been fined €1,500 for marketing children’s toys containing toxic substances, the labour ministry announced Monday.

Yacumo Enterprises was taken to court for selling toys containing particular phthalates beyond the permitted 0.1 per cent concentration.

Phthalates are chemicals used to soften polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plastic and as solvents in cosmetics and other consumer products.

They can damage the liver, kidneys, lungs, and reproductive system.
