Post office warns of new scam

The postal services warned the public on Friday about a new online fraud attempt where scammers use a fake Cyprus Post e-mail address to ask for custom duties.

It described what recipients should look out for in order to determine that the communication does NOT come from Cyprus Post:

1. The e-mail address is different and does not end with @cypruspost.post
2. The wording in Greek reads like an automatic online translation.
3. The tracking number given is not authentic and people should check whether they are actually expecting a delivery.
4. Cyprus Post will not return or not deliver an item because customs/taxes have not been paid
5. Payments are not directed through hyperlink to JCCSmart’s online payment platform.

An example of the fake e-mail, addressed as high priority, was [email protected].
