Coronavirus: No deaths, 586 new infections reported on Monday (updated)

No deaths from Covid were reported in the past 24 hours, as 586 new infections were detected after 102,692 tests, a 0.57 per cent positivity rate, the health ministry said Monday.

The ministry said 116 people with Covid were being treated in hospital, 46 in serious or critical condition.

Three post-Covid patients were intubated in serious condition.

The virus has so far claimed the lives of 594 people while infections since the start of the pandemic last year reached 133,860.

Of the 586 cases, 19 were among 600 samples belonging to the close contacts of previously confirmed cases.

Ten cases were among 4,505 samples taken from arriving travellers at the two airports.

Fifty-seven cases were among 1,712 samples tested privately while four were reported by state hospital labs after 373 tests.

Private labs and pharmacies reported 354 cases in 63,729 samples tested with rapid antigen tests while testing units that are part of the state’s screening programme reported 141 cases following 31,559 tests.

One case was among 213 samples collected from people referred by GPs.

Turkish Cypriots reported one death and 241 cases on Monday following 26,254 tests.

The number of deaths since March last year reached 101 while cases stood at 28,593.
