Civil defence confirmed on Tuesday that a group of Czech tourists had been rescued after being trapped in snow earlier in the day.

Spokesperson Olivia Michaelidou told the Cyprus News Agency that the group was in a rental car near Kyperounda when they got trapped in thick snow.

“We took action after local residents got in touch with us and informed us about the incident,” she said, adding that the car was freed thanks to teamwork between civil defence, the Limassol district administration and the local community council.

“Kyperounda residents showed the tourists hospitality, offering them food and a place to stay,” she added.

The tourists, who are all in good health, thanked everyone who helped and according to Michaelidou were on their way to Paphos, where their flight home will depart on Wednesday morning.
