Coronavirus: Betting shop owner fined €1,500 after customer found without SafePass

A betting shop owner has been fined €1,500 for allowing a customer into the shop without a SafePass.

The fine came as police charged 11 people in the 24 hours leading up to 6am on Friday.

According to a police spokesman, a total of 1,926 checks were carried out across the island.

In Nicosia 558 checks were carried out with five people and the one business fined.

In Limassol 125 checks were carried out and two people fined. In Larnaca there were 402 checks, in Paphos 118 and in Morphou 91 all without any fines issued.

In Famagusta 337 checks resulted in three people being fined.
