A teenager driving under the influence of drugs crashed against a police car, resulting to the injury of three officers during a car chase in Nicosia early on Friday.

He was caught with an unspecified quantity of drugs in his possession, police said.

According to the announcement, traffic officers signaled the 19-year-old driver to stop for a check as he was driving on Tseriou avenue around 1.45am.

Instead, the teenager increased speed and as a result crashed into a second patrol car with three other officers as passengers.

The police members were transferred to the accidents and emergency department of the Nicosia general hospital, where they were diagnosed with a neck contusion. They received first aid and were discharged.

Investigations showed the teenager did not have a driving license, not car insurance.

During a body search, a quantity of drugs was also found in his possession, after which he tested positive to a narcotest.
