A man aged 45 is under arrest to facilitate police inquiries in a suspected case of sexual abuse of a minor, the Cyprus News Agency reported on Tuesday citing informed sources.

The man, who is from the Larnaca district, was arrested on Monday afternoon after a relative filed a complaint with police that the suspect has allegedly been sexually abusing his underage daughter for some time.

Members of the unit against the sexual abuse of children from police headquarters took a statement from the complainant and arrested the man.

He is due to appear before Larnaca district court for a remand hearing. The court is expected to meet behind closed doors to protect the victim’s identity.
