A 13-year-old boy who was injured in what appears to have been a joy riding accident in Athienou, is being treated at Larnaca general hospital’s paediatric unit.

Police said that at around 11.20am on Friday morning on a rural road, within the buffer zone, in the Athienou area, under circumstances being investigated, a minor aged 13, allegedly lost control of the vehicle he was driving, causing it to overturn in a field and come to a standstill.

The teenager was injured and taken by ambulance to Larnaca general hospital, where it was found that he suffered a fractured thoracic vertebrae and was kept in for treatment.

Two other 13-year-olds and a 15-year-old girl who were in the car at the time were unharmed.

Athienou police station is investigating the case.
