A 21-year-old motorcyclist from Larnaca was killed in the early hours of Sunday on the section of highway from the Rizoelia roundabout to the airport, police said.

The accident happened shortly after midnight when either the motorcycle was hit by a car or he hit a car in the right lane of the highway, which threw his vehicle into the left lane where he was hit by another car.

The injured man was taken by ambulance to the Larnaca general hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, police said.

Larnaca traffic police are investigating the cause of the accident.

They announced Sunday morning that the section of highway was temporarily closed to traffic as investigations got underway at first light. It was reopened some time later.
