An evening of poetry on a Nicosia rooftop under the light of the July full moon is coming up thanks Ideogramma. As part of the Versopolis series of actions, a pan-European platform for poets, the Cypriot cultural organisation is presenting the evening Versopolis – Panselinos in Cyprus. Five exceptional young emerging poets from Europe and Cyprus will meet on Friday to share their poetry and vision.

Ideogramma has been a member of the Versopolis Platform as of 2019, and hosts emerging poets in Cyprus, who are represented on the platform. The event this month, held at ARTos House in Agioi Omologites, will take place in conversation with another two Versopolis poets from Cyprus, Constantinos Papageorgiou and Avgi Lilli.

The event will be divided into three parts. The first, at 8.30pm, will include readings by the visiting poets, together with three poets from Cyprus coordinated by Constantinos and Avgi. Welcoming to the floor Elis Monteverde Burrau from Sweden, Odile Kennel from Germany, Alexandros Chronides and Andreas Timotheou and Tuğçe Tekhanli from Cyprus, the readings will be presented in their original language and accompanied by translations in Greek and/or English projected on a screen.

The second part of the evening will be dedicated to Ukrainian poets, reading five poems in Ukrainian as well as in Greek, again with projections of the translations. The poems that will be presented in the evening are works by Olga Povopoznyk, Halyna Kruk, Natalka Bilotserkivets, Myroslav Laiuk and Andriy Bondar.

Concluding the event are video poems that were created by the year 2021 – 2022 students of the Department of Arts-Graphic Design of the European University. Five students have turned the works of five Versopolis poets into visual pieces which will be screened towards the end of the evening.

Specifically, Christalleni Iakovou has worked on a poem by Alexandros Chronides, Eleni Kamarligkou on Andreas Timotheou work, Nicoletta Christodoulou on Avgi Lilli’s poem, Polymnia Panagi on Tuğçe Tekhanli and Vasiliki Charitou on a piece by Constantinos Papageorgiou. Free to attend and with an aim to showcase emerging poets, Ideogramma invites logophiles for another edition of Versopolis – Panselinos in Cyprus, under the starry night sky.
