Two stopped at Paphos airport with forged ID

Paphos airport

Two cases of travellers using forged ID are being investigated by CID Paphos after individuals were stopped trying to leave the island through Paphos airport, police said on Friday.

According to CID Paphos chief Michalils Nicolaou, at 8pm on Thursday night a woman attempted to leave for Italy.

At passport control she presented a Portuguese ID card which was later determined as being forged.

During police questioning she admitted she was from Africa and had applied for asylum on the island.

About three hours earlier a man travelling to Vienna presented a Finnish passport but the photo in it bore no resemblance to him.

During questioning he admitted to his real data, which revealed he is a minor from an African country.

A case of impersonation is being investigated against him.
