A 92-year-old woman has died from coronavirus over the past week, while 1,869 new infections were detected, the health ministry has announced on Friday.

The new death was recorded on Monday, bringing the total number of coronavirus fatalities to 1,173.

According to the weekly report of the ministry, a total of 67,808 tests were carried out for the period between September 2 to 8, a positivity rate of 2.76 per cent.

Most cases, 1,638, were traced during private testing after 48,929 rapid tests, while another 105 people tested positive after 2,042 PCR tests carried out privately.

Some 41 infections were detected from 9,354 rapid tests as part of the free health ministry’s programmes. Those included 24 positives in nursing homes and seven in the national guard.

As regards hospitalisations, there were 44 patients at the various state hospitals, including five in serious condition, of whom one was intubated.

Three patients, who stopped being infectious, remain intubated in the ICU because of the virus.
