Paphos’ domestic violence unit has received 441 cases since February 2021

Since Paphos’ domestic violence unit was established in February 15, 2021 up until October 31, 2022 it received 441 reports, it emerged on Wednesday.

According to Paphos CID spokesman Michalis Nicolaou, there have been a total of 441 cases, with 481 individuals filing reports. These comprised of 235 Cypriots and 246 foreign nationals.

There are 461 defendants, of which 228 are foreign nationals and 233 are Cypriots. In connection to the reports filed, police arrested 197 people, of which 110 were foreign nationals and 87 were Cypriot.

Currently, there are six pending arrest warrants concerning the same person who is wanted since 2021.

The unit also receives reports in writing, from various government departments and services while cooperation with hospitals and the social services is paramount to help victims, Nicolaou added.
